Diksi Bahasa Mantra Sasak

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe the use of diction in the Sasak mantra language. The method employed in this research is a qualitative descriptive method, with data collection techniques conducted through interviews and observations. The research data consist of Sasak mantras classified into three types, namely senggeger, healing, and agricultural mantras. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction by selecting data that contain diction in the Sasak mantra language. The results of the study indicate that diction in the Sasak mantra language possesses distinctive characteristics, including the use of archaic words that are difficult to interpret lexically, the incorporation of Arabic elements as a form of religious influence, and the presence of symbolic words containing connotative meanings such as protection, supplication, and expulsion. In addition, variations in diction were identified in the form of words that can be replaced with more common equivalents without altering their basic meaning, as well as words that can be omitted to enhance the density and expressiveness of the mantra language. Thus, diction in mantras functions not only as a means of communication but also as a medium for constructing a sacred atmosphere and generating a magical effect.
